SolarWinds
Network Performance Monitor, Hybrid Cloud Observability, the SaaS platform, and DPA
SolarWinds is strongest in infrastructure and network monitoring, which makes its interview questions noticeably different from the application-centric platforms. Network Performance Monitor polls devices over SNMP and ICMP and builds topology maps, so expect questions about polling intervals and their effect on both device load and detection latency, about SNMP versions and why v3 matters when the management network is not trusted, and about NetFlow or sFlow for traffic analysis rather than simple up-down checks. Database Performance Analyzer takes a wait-time approach — attributing time to what a query was actually blocked on rather than to averaged resource counters — which is a useful contrast to draw. Hybrid Cloud Observability extends the same model across on-premises and cloud estates, and questions often centre on monitoring what you do not own.
Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Monitor network device health and availability via SNMP, the classic SolarWinds use case.
Hybrid Cloud Observability (HCO)
See the self-hosted, integrated successor that unifies network, systems, and apps.
SolarWinds Observability (SaaS) & APM
Understand the cloud-native SaaS platform for modern apps and distributed tracing.
Database Performance Analyzer (DPA)
Pinpoint database slowness with wait-time analysis across many engines.
