Splunk Observability Cloud

Use the SignalFx-derived suite for real-time metrics, APM, infra, and RUM.

Beyond log analytics, Splunk offers Observability Cloud — a suite built largely on the SignalFx technology Splunk acquired — focused on metrics, traces, and front-end monitoring rather than log search. Infrastructure Monitoring ingests metrics as streaming data and evaluates them in real time, which is well suited to high-cardinality cloud and container environments. Its detectors alert on streaming conditions with low latency.

A live broadcast control room rather than a tape archive: signals stream in continuously and alarms trigger the moment a pattern breaks, instead of being searched after the fact.

Key Concepts

1
APM in Observability Cloud is notable for NoSample full-fidelity tracing in its design — aiming to retain all traces rather than head-sampling — plus service maps and tag-based breakdowns of latency and errors. Real User Monitoring (RUM) and Synthetics cover the browser/front-end side. The suite is OpenTelemetry-native, using the Splunk distribution of the OTel Collector to gather data, so it slots into vendor-neutral pipelines while still correlating back to Splunk's log platform.
