Item Master and Organization Structure in EBS
Explain how items and inventory organizations are structured to support multi-org manufacturing and distribution
The Item Master is a single organization (typically a dedicated 'Master' inventory org) that holds the master definition of every item, while individual Inventory Organizations (child orgs representing warehouses, plants, or distribution centers) can assign and override specific attributes for their local context. This master/child model avoids duplicating core item data across dozens of warehouses while still allowing local flexibility (like item status or costing method per org).
The Item Master is like a central product catalog for a retail chain — head office defines the base product (description, UPC code), but each individual store (inventory org) can set its own local price, shelf location, or reorder point.
